Storyboard Text

  • 15th Amendment
  • I can't believe that we finally get to vote!
  • It's about time  that African Americans get a say in something!
  • Before voting, Blacks must complete: 1. Poll Taxes 2. A literacy test
  • On  February 3, 1870, the 15th Amendment to the United States  Constitution was ratified. This  amendment would grant African American men the right to vote.
  • Come  the time to  vote, many black males were eager to  finally have their opinions heard...
  • ...but when they reached the ballots, they were told that  poll taxes needed to be paid and a literacy test needed to be passed in order to  cast a vote. Many blacks did not have the money or education to overcome these restrictions.  Therefore,  the 15th  Amendment   was NOT enough to  allow African Americans  to have a political voice.
