It's about time that African Americans get a say in something!
Before voting, Blacks must complete: 1. Poll Taxes 2. A literacy test
On February 3, 1870, the 15th Amendment to the United States Constitution was ratified. This amendment would grant African American men the right to vote.
Come the time to vote, many black males were eager to finally have their opinions heard...
...but when they reached the ballots, they were told that poll taxes needed to be paid and a literacy test needed to be passed in order to cast a vote. Many blacks did not have the money or education to overcome these restrictions. Therefore, the 15th Amendment was NOT enough to allow African Americans to have a political voice.
