  • General Joseph Hooker was a good general for other battles but was replaced. On the Confederate side General Lee's second hand man, Stonewall Jackson,was shot and killed by one of his own solders
  • On the first day on the Battle of Gettysburg the Union and the Confederacy both wanted a win at this battle. The Union was holding a good defense but the Confederacy kept on attacking.
  • On the second day of Gettysburg the fighting was still happening even with all of the death. The Union started to make advances toward the confederate army and overtook it from them and won this battle.
  • On July 3rd 1863, George Picket of the Confederacy wanted to charge the Union when they were unprepared for it, But it ended up just being a disaster with 15,000 Confederate deaths and only 6,500 Union deaths. This made the Confederates retreat and loose their charge.
  • After the battle of Gettysburg there was a lot of deaths and casualties. The Union had 23,049 casualties, and the Confederacy had 28,063 casualties. This was the bloodiest american battle and ended the south revolt, and the south never recovered.
  • The Gettysburg Address is one of the most important speeches from Abraham Lincoln. This was a ceremony for the cemetery of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. This speech was only 273 words but gave meaning to all citizens and especially to formal slaves, saying that all men are created equal.
