Storyboard Text

  • Is God unjust, who divided to us the things of this life unequally? Why are you wealthy while that other man is poor?... When you hoard all these things in the insatiable bosom of greed, do you suppose you do no wrong in cheating so many people?  Who is a man of greed? Someone who does not rest content with what is sufficient. someone fails to clothe the naked, while he is able to do this, is such a man deserving of any other appellation? However many are those whom you could have provided for, so many are those whom you wrong.
  • I understand that to be a good human being to our fellow brothers and sisters, we have to give back and be charitable. I know the fortunate should help the less fortunate. I do donate and give back but it never seems enough. I feel I am judged by society who seems to make it my responsibility to take care of others. Am I supposed to give over all that is mine?
  • What you have is NOT yours, but lent by God, and when you misuse it, by not sharing it in the way God wills, then be warned as God may require an accounting of you. Remember, you cannot take material possessions with you to heaven.
  • I think the needy should work hard like I do, then they will have all they need. Why would I be punished for being successful?
  • St. Basil preaches on his views about every man's responsibility to helping the poor.
  • Donating to charities is not enough. You have many unfortunate brothers and sister who are hungry, who are cold. If you have 2 coats in your closet and someone freezes to death, you are guilty of that loss.
  • Giving away all that I worked hard for seems wrong.
  • A wealthy American man shares his understanding of St. Basil's views and expresses his challenge.
  • Wealthy people do not help the needy enough. It is not forbidden to be wealthy, but rich people who give richly will be praised by God.
  • I work hard for many comforts and also so that my children do not have to work as hard.
  • St. Basil and the man have a meeting of the minds.
  • Teach your children this...Helping others brings joy to our lives and helps us engage in the kingdom of heaven. Each one of us should be willing to give freely and openly, not only material things but our very selves. A true Christian withholds nothing from God’s service, even the way they live life.
  • Thank you for helping me understand what it means to steal from the poor.
  • St. Basil explains that charity is not enough.
  • St. Basil explains what it means to give richly and the wealthy man explains he works for his family.
  • St. Basil explains that giving is living and the wealthy man is grateful for the lesson.
