  • The Mongol Invasion
  • How did the Mongols build a vast empire that stretched from Europe to China?
  • Us Mongols, we were all separated into clans. Those clans were divided into tribes, until one day. Yes, I remember. A man named Temujin united all of the tribes. Sometimes, he needed to do this by force. Eventually, he took the name Genghis Khan. He created a mighty fighting force and began his conquest. By 1221, the mongols had captured all of Central Asia. Later, his grandson, Kublai Khan, took over the rest of China from Song control, and the Mongols now controlled all of China.
  • Mongol Government
  • What features of Chinese government did the Mongols adopt?
  • Kublai Khan was the very first person in 300 years to control all of China. The Mongols didn't have much experience with government, so Kublai Khan adopted much of the Chinese government. Instead of Khan, he now called himself Emperor. These steps helped him control China. Even so, he made sure that Chinese offi.cials didn't gain enough power

  • How did the Mongols encourage trade?
  • Welcome
  • While Kublai Khan was ruling, China became much more open. The Mongols made the trade routes, like the Silk Road, more protected. Trade also increased a lot with foreign countries, like Arabia, India, and Persia. One of the most famous people to come to China at this time was Marco Polo. He became Kublai Khan's assistant, and helped him on some government missions. Later, he made a book about his adventures, which was a great success.
