Storyboard Text

  • Paraphrase
  • Connotation
  • Attitude
  • This poem is about a raven that comes into his chamber and wouldn't leave because it was symbolizing his wife's death.
  • Shift
  • Beyond the literal level this poem may mean grief, depression and mournfulness.
  • Title
  • The tone is very dreadful and sad. The poets attitude is very depressing. Examples are when the poet uses the words dreary, weak, morrow and chamber.
  • Theme
  • The shift occurs when he is told that he won't see Lenore again. The tone shifts to anger.
  • My original ideas were partially correct. It is about a bird that does symbolize death but it also symbolizes grief and anger.
  • The overall theme is that if you don't move forward grief will overwhelm you. We are supposed to learn to move on and not suffer over it.
