  • To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee
  • The Finch family, made up of Atticus Finch, his son Jem, and his daughter Scout. The family lives in Maycomb County, Alabama. Atticus is a prominent lawyer and legislator.He provides a very comfortable living even though it is the 1930's and deep into the depression. This is a time of great racial and social prejudice.
  • Exposition
  • Scout’s strongest traits are her intelligence, her ambition, and her courage. Scout has a big desire to always choose the right. Scout doesn't abide by gender roles and is curious and naive at the same time . By the end of the novel Scout has matured in thought and becomes very introspective.
  • Trait of Main Character
  • A young black man named Tom Robinson is accused of rape by a white girl. Atticus is asked to represent him. This is not easy for Atticus or his children. The towns' people show their prejudice to them throughout the trial.
  • Conflict / Rising Action
  • Atticus is successful at proving Tom's innocence but Tom is found guilty anyway. Jem and Scout are bewildered at how the people of Maycomb County could send an innocent man to the electric chair.
  • "You have been found GUILTY!"
  • Climax / Turning Point
  • In the end Bob Ewell is so humiliated by Atticus that he decides to take his anger out on Jem and Scout. He attacks the children late at night. The children are saved by their reclusive neighbor who the children have feared for years.
