  • Perseverance
  • During a severe famine, William and his family had to persevere to stay alive. Even though it was hard, they did there very best until the famine was over.
  • Exploration
  • Even when William was being laughed at for trying to make a windmill, he persevered and kept working. He seemed like a lunatic to outsiders, but he really was a genius all along.
  • Exploration
  • In the end, William was rewarded for his perseverance when he finally finished his windmill. Later on, he became famous in Africa for his windmill, and got to speak at a TED conference.
  • Exploration
  • Unlike most kids, William was very sad to have to quit school. He tried to convince his dad to let him go even though they didn't have the money.
  • When William can't go to school, he spends hours in the library studying science and history.
  • William is rewarded for his exploration when he uses that knowledge to create a windmill, and shares what he learns with others.
