It is a warm August day in Philadelphia. Matilda had woke up from a sleep with her mother yelling at her in an instance to wake up.
“Rouse yourself this instant!”
“Lucille has been wanting her out of town.”
Matilda's mother has caught the fever. Eliza and her grandfather think it is the best for Mattie to leave Phildelphia.
“Get her out!” "Out"
“You can’t send me away! I need to be here—I need to help!" "You can’t send me away.”
Mattie and her grandfather were on the trip to the Luddingtons, but they were kicked off. Mattie has ended up getting the fever trying to help her grandfather who has summer grippe.
By the time the chestnut tree was in sight, they felt like tiny anvils weighing me down. I breathed heavily and focused on moving one foot at a time. I turned around. Did I hear voices whispering? The balloon. I’ll be up in a minute, Mother. Just let me sleep. Then, blackness.
Mattie had finally woken up from a long sleeping. She has the fever. But is feeling better and soon will be out of the hospital.
“Oh, my, now that’s looking much better, isn’t it? You’ve beat the GrimReaper, you have, lassie.”
“Eliza? It’s me, Mattie!”
Mattie finally found Eliza for this long of a time she hasn't seen her. Mattie needs help with taking care of Nell and herself since her grandfather died.
“What on earth are you doing here? And where did you find that baby girl?”
Finally Mattie's mother has made it back home! Mattie has missed her mother and finally she has returned! They now can work at the coffeehouse together just like the way it was before.
