Hundreds of women marched the 12 miles from Paris to Versailles in the rain to create a voice for women in the eyes of the royal family and demand change
When they finally reached Versailles after 6 hours, they were so battered from the rain it turned from a protest into begging for food. Maillard invited them into the hall for a discussion.
At around 6 in the morning, some of the protesters found a small gate that was unguarded, from there they made their way into the palace and found therselves in the Queens bedroom. Royal guards started running around the castle boarding and bolting doors, they then started firing at the intruders and from here on the violence started to boil over. In all 2 guards were overpowered and 1 young protester was killed.
