  • In the late 1890's Cuba was owned by Spain. But, they didn't want to be, so they rebelled. Spain did not like this.

  • A man named Valeriano Weyler put the Cuban in concentration camps! Yellow journalism was used to write to the Americans.

  • The U.S.S. main that was sent to the coast of Cuba suddenly blew up! They immediately assumed it was Spain! This caused problems...
  • President Mckinley asked for Peace because he did not want to start a war. He also sent a list of command to Spain, such as, Cuban independence
  • Demands- 1. 2 3.
  • When war was declared, Admiral Dewey destroyed the entire Spanish fleet in only 7 hours! America was victorious!
  • The treaty of Paris was signed after the war declaring that Cuba was independent. The U.S. payed Spain 20 million dollars and gained the Philippines, Puerto Rico, and the Pacific island of Guam
