  • (TEACHER APPROACHING) Tom, you seem angry. Take a seat and tell me why you are upset.
  • (THROWS BOOKS) He is stupid!
  • We take turns, and you will work with Jason next week. Now, pick up your books. Remember what you said to Tom, I think it would be a good choice to talk to him about it.
  • I don't want to work with him. I want to work with Jason.
  • I'm sorry I called you stupid. I was mad.
  • It's okay. Alright, you read number one...
  • Students begin group work as a team
  • The teacher was able to de-escalate the situation by getting on the students level, and approaching in a calm and direct manner. The student was able to move on and successfully complete the lesson.
