Brian Robeson, a teenager who survived a plane crash in the woods and managed to survive for a month, had some government members come up to his door. They asked him to try to survive again so Derek (a psychologist) can take note of how he survives and tell it to the military.
Brian is told that he'll land soon by Derek. Finally, they land right by a lake in the woods. Brian convinces Derek to not bring any emergency survival equipment; they would tap into it if they ever needed something, ruining the survival experience. For a while, everything seems controlled and Brian's a little bored. Brian continues to talk to Derek about survival.
After a couple days of survival, a gigantic lightning storm hits their camp! A lightning bolt hits Derek and knocks him into a coma, also destroying their emergency radio (along with a knife was the only supplies that they brought). Derek is then extremely dehydrated, but whenever Brian tries to give him water, Derek gags it right back up. If Brian can't come up with something soon, Derek will die.
Brian finds an old map in Derek's bag that will lead them to an emergency shelter. Brian realizes that the easiest way to go there is by river, so he builds a raft for Derek (whom is still in a coma) and himself to go down the river to the shelter.
While rafting, the raft capsizes! Brian and Derek fall off of the boat, and Brian is tugged away by currents. Eventually, Brian falls into a coma and drifts away from Derek.
Soon, they are rescued by a small family and taken to a hospital. Derek and Brian survive, and in gratitude, Derek gives Brian a canoe which Derek names "The Raft".
