the egg

Storyboard Text

  • What a stunning outfit! Why did you do it anyway?
  • That was too close for comfort.
  • I thought Adeline might like an egg for breakfast once in a while. My number is 31 and hers is 37.
  • Mama is always bringing me eggs even though I tell her not to. I can't stand eating them, especially the way they soft-boil them here, with yolk all runny. Reminds me of snot.
  • Adeline locks herself in the bathroom when the girls came in and started talking about the egg.
  • Yesterday I wrapped a half eaten egg in a napkin and trashed it when no one was looking. Unfortunately Ma-Mien found it and fished it out.
  • Adeline hears what Eleanor did for her.
  • At first I denied it was mine but she pointed out the number on the shell. It's a sin to waste food when so many of your country-men are starving to death, she screamed. Then she forced me to eat it. All I'm aware of is that she gets neither eggs nor visitors on Sundays.
  • Eleanor tells Irene about what she thinks of eggs and speaks with a tone of disgust.
  • Later in the day, I sneaked into the kitchen and changed The number on my egg from one to seven. Thought Adeline might get a kick out of having her number called for a change! How was I to know she hates eggs?
  • Eleanor rolls her eyes.
  • Eleanor starts to mimic Ma-Mien and Irene laughs.
  • At the point Adeline has mixed emotions and knows everybody knows about her 'eggless state'.
