  • Hello class, today we will be continuing our fantasy themed drama play. If everyone could get out their notebooks to review the different fantasy elements in story telling, we can begin.
  • Hey, did you see the hockey game last night? 
  • No! What happened?
  • Guys, be quiet! I can't hear Mr. Smith
  • Yeah, it was a crazy game.
  • Gentlemen, could you please quiet down and focus on the task at hand.
  • In a minute sir, he is catching me up on the hockey game!
  • Mr. Smith began the class with reminding the students of the work they will be doing in today's class.
  • Yeah, it was a crazy game.
  • James, Phil, you two distupting the class has become a regular problem. I would like to meet with you during second nutrition break to discuss what expectations I have of you during class time.
  • In a minute sir, he is catching me up on the hockey game!
  • James and Phil were talking about hockey during class time and causing a distraction instead of working on their drama assignment.
  • Alright you two, I want to create a behavioural contract with you, that says if you can stay on task during class time, before the bell goes, we can discuss news like the hockey games as a class.
  • Mr. Smith has had to continously ask the students on a regular basis to focus on work during class time and can talk about sports later.
  • Alright, since all of you completed what we were supposed to finish on time, we will spend the last few minutes discussing if hockey players should be allowed to go to the Olympics.
  • Mr. Smith has made the decision that he will meet with the students in order to create a behavioural contract with the students, to try and keep them more on task during class time. 
  • Mr. Smith speaks with James and Phil and together they come up with a contract that goes over the expectation of the students in class, the steps the teacher will take with progressive discipline, and the positive communication will be the teacher devoting class time to discuss current events the students are interested in.
  • Alright Mr. Smith, that sounds like a fair deal that you would like to make! We are sorry about being a distraction, we don't mean to. We just really like talking about hockey.
  • As promised in the contracts, Mr. Smith devoted the last few minutes of class time to discuss what the students wanted because they remained on task for the period.
