Storyboard Text

  • It was about autumn when William Armstrong, AKA Doodle, was born. He was my brother, and he was not expected to live.
  • Doodle did live!
  • Don't leave me brother!!!
  • I could be cruel to him at times. It is human nature to be cruel. I just wanted a "normal" brother!
  • I would take him to Old Woman Swamp and teach him to stand and walk. Everyone was so happy when Doodle could walk, but I was sad because I only taught him so I would not be embarrassed.
  • The Scarlet Ibis had been misplaced in the storm. It could not sustain the weather in its frail, weakened state. The Scarlet Ibis died and Doodle was sad.
  • I made Doodle row and run. He had to be ready to start school. Then the storm rolled in and our lives changed forever.
  • Pride is a horrible thing! I pushed Doodle too far for my own selfishness, not wanting to believe his vulnerability! He was my fallen scarlet ibis.
