Solomon speaks to his wife about her pending trip as a cook.
Solomon wakes up after being drugged by men who capture him and sell him into slavery.
"Yes, Sir, Master Epps."
"Are you listening to me, Platt!!!????"
Solomon becomes a slave named Platt and works at Master Ford's plantation.
Platt upsets an overseer at the Ford Plantation and is hanged from a tree as an example. This shows the other slaves that they need to obey.
Platt begins aging and is working at Master Epps's plantation. Epps is a cruel master who beats and rapes his slaves. He meets Patsey, who is the enslaved person enduring Epps's mistreatment the most.
Solomon is helped by Bass and he is able to prove he is free and escapes slavery. When he returns to his family, he realizes he is now a grandfather.
