  • Welcome to Introduction to Agriculture. You may think agriculture has very little to do with you day to day... except meal times. Nothing is further from reality.
  • More than just hamburgers, huh?
  • The US is the world's largest exporter of agriculture goods. And when North Korea and the US were negotiating trade, it wasn't weapons they wanted, but food. Agriculture has helped to make the US a world power.
  • Agriculture contributed over a trillion dollars to the US Gross Domestic Product last year.
  • From hunters and gatherers we advanced to high tech production. Historians say that because we became efficient at producing food we were able to spend time on other pursuits.
  • Sports, art, modern medicine, even music are all possible because all of us no longer spend every day searching for food. One farmer today can feed over 160 other people!
  • Brown cows are the only ones that can produce chocolate milk, which is why it is 2.5 times more expensive.A pig can run a mile in 7 minutes.It takes a hive of bees flying 55,000 miles to produce one pound of honey.
