  • What's up?
  • Maybe we should separate and stop paying taxes to the upper class. I think they will learn their lesson.
  • We need to figure out how we can make the Estates more even. It is not fair that I have to pay so much of my income to support others. I need to support my family!
  • Lets get together!
  • Oh goodness! How are we going to be able to keep our army in prestine condition!? There is no way we can support ourselves without the 3rd Estate paying taxes to us.
  • We have to join them. There is power in numbers.
  • The Riots
  • I put this in because it shows that there was a plan brewing. The fire shows that there are new ideas and the iron table shows that these ideas are becoming a reality and are going to happen. The 3rd Estate was very upset. They were the only Estate (of 3 total) that had to pay taxes. They were taxed over half of their income! The 3rd Estate became so upset. They created a plan that would separate them from the others. They would stop being the only people that paid taxes.
  • Beheaded
  • I put this in because it shows how much of an impact the 3rd Estate had on the rest of the French. The empty room shows the 1st and 2nd Estate's supllies without the 3rd Estate paying taxes. Since the 3rd Estate made up 98% of the population, their separation caused a lot of problems for the 1st and 2nd Estates. The upper class realized that they would have to join with the 3rd Estate. There would now be more representation for the 3rd Estate.
  • Maximilien Robespierre
  • Everyone listen to me. There will be no more monarchy and everyone will listen to me or else you will be beheaded.
  • I put the group of people rioting to represent the 3rd Estate. They took advantage of France being at war with Austria and Prussia. The group of rioters gained political power and then tried the king on December 11, 1792 and found him guilty. They ended up taking complete control. The people that were not loyal to the new government were beheaded. The 3rd Estate now felt secure and that is why I put the shield with a check mark.
  • Bonaparte to the Rescue
  • The king was beheaded as a punishment. This punishment had already occurred to his wife before. People watched as he died and would no longer be under his rule. This was good because now the 3rd Estate would make the rule in France more fair... Little did they know who would come to power next.
  • Maximilien Robespierre started a time period known as the Reign of Terror. He shut down churches and that is why the religious couple in my slide are upset and crying. The scene is dark because if someone did not agree with Robespierre, they were beheaded. In fact, 30,000 people were killed for not being faithful. He became the head of the Committee of Public Safety.
  • Although Bonaparte was not actually a part of the French Revolution, he helped to bring it out of debt and get rid of the corruption. He opened public schools so that people could be chosen by merit instead of wealth. I put the light scenery because it shows how peaceful the land got after Robespierre was gone and Bonaparte took over.
