Near the beginning of 1836, Texans in the city of Goliad began to leave their homes, as news had spread that Santa Anna was coming. Sam Houston led many away from the city.
The flight grew, many different people joining the group. However, disease and sickness spread throughout the people. Many died, and were burried where they passed.
The Runaway scrape didn't end until Sam Houston heard the news of the win and capture of Santa Anna at the Battle of San Jacinto. Even after that, some of the refugees were reluctant to return to their homes.
