  • What a beautiful Necklace.
  • Set in Paris, France in 1880. A young poor woman has always dreamt about a lavish lifestyle which is beyond her reach. One day her husband brings home invitations to a formal party, she is very excited to attend but stressed that she will look frumpy.
  • CLIMAX
  • Mathilde Loisel askes her husband if she could buy her a dress and it's very expensive, she is still not satisfied and she wants a necklace to go with the dress. She askes one of her wealthy friends to borrow a diamond necklace.
  • FALLING ACTION
  • My life has been horrible because I lost the necklace I borrowed and had to replace it.
  • At the ball, everyone wants to dance with her and everyone is complementing her. Mme. Lousie loses the necklace, her husband replaces it with another diamond necklace but it is too expensive and it takes over 10 years to pay for it.
  • RESOLUTION
  • what!!! the necklace I gave you was just a fake.
  • 10 years of hard work and sacrifices Mme. Lousie and her husband finally pay off the necklace.
  • One day Mathilde is walking to the market and sees her old friend who she had borrowed the necklace from. Mme. Lousie tells her friend about how horrible her life has been since she borrowed the necklace.
  • The friend Mme. Forester tells Mathilde that the necklace she borrowed was just a fake one and it was really cheap. The irony in this story leaves the reader thinking.
