  • Raphael was a little younger than Michelangelo and Leonardo, and he studied them and their great works which ultimately made him a better painter himself.  His paintings put together Christian and classical styles. In one of his paintings called the School of Athens he paints great scholars and himself.

  • In this painting by Raphael, he pictures a group of great thinkers and scientists, including Plato, Aristotle, Socrates, and the Arab philosopher Averroes. With Renaissance self confidence, Raphael included himself in it also with Michelangelo and Leonardo.
  • Humanist?
  • Overall Raphael was a humanist, because humanist believed in education stimulating peoples brains and study more worldly subjects than education. Humanism is focusing on worldly things and activities.
  • Was a many sided genius who was a sculptor, engineer, painter, architect, and poet. He made marble into masterpieces as a young boy, which he then made into a famous art called the Pieta captures the sorrow of Mary as she cradles the dead Christ on her knees

  • Statue of David
  • The statue of David was representing the biblical Shepard who killed the giant Goliath, recalls the harmony and grace of ancient Greek tradition.
  • Humanist?
  • Michelangelo was in fact a humanist, he used paintings and the arts to focus on more worldly stuff today rather in religion. Humanism is focusing on worldly things and activities.
