Steps/ Preparation of the Haitian revolution
A Voodoo priest by the name of Boukman Duty started a slave uprising. The slaves burned crops and fields, and killed whites. The "Maroons" were runaway slaves.
We have no representation and we want to be free.
Both sides wanted independence from France yet one still wanted to keep the slaves and the other did not. The whites would seek help from the British in order to silence the Slave rebellion.
In return the Slaves sought the help of the Spanish who owned the nearby colony of Santo Domingo or the Dominican Republic. Under the control of the general Toussaint I'Overture, the slaves defeated the French and British
I'Overture eventually went on to defeat the nearby Spanish in Santo Domingo (No one is safe). After eventually controlling and freeing the entire Island of Espanola. I'Overture would declare himself Governor for life.
