From the outside, it may look like Diana Styles has a perfect family. They've got a tremendous house and parents well dressed, but no one knows what goes on inside. Her father is psychologically ill. Although no one knows about this outside, inside everyone knows because he somehow maintains himself outside. Her father doesn't realize it himself, but his family knows.
Diana's father's illness causes him to be excessively abusive to his wife and kids. As Diana feels the familiar sting on her cheek from her dad striking her, she then starts to feel the familiar wetness fall from her eyes. Because of her frequent crying, she earns a childhood nickname; Cry Baby.
With Diana's mom all cut and bruised up, she decides she's had enough of it all. Diana's older sister saw it coming but Diana was oblivious to it. When Diana comes home from school she calls for her mom. "Mommy! Mommy!" She yells throughout the house. She walks up the stairs and hears sobbing coming from somewhere. Diana always had a heart too big for her body so she started feeling worried. "Diana?" her mom says, but before Diana could stop her mom, the damage was done and her mom was gone.
A little while goes by without Diana's mother and her father hasn't gotten any better. He got angry over something that happened at work and let it out on his eldest daughter. Because of his mental illness, it makes him more violent. He got a plate and broke it on her head, his illness getting the best of him. He did mean to hurt her but he didn't mean to severely hurt her. She was taken to the hospital and lost so much blood, it took her life.
As Diana grows older, she starts realizing how her family definitely isn't a normal family. After her sisters death it all sinks in that she could be the next one in line. She starts having trust issues because of her father. She just wants to be alone and cry. When she was younger she thought it would get better, but now that she's matured, she's realizes it wont get better and that the only way to end it all is to somehow disappear.
Diana finishes high school with perfect grades and is accepted in a wonderful college countries away from America. She saved up money for a plane ticket. Her whole life's perfectly planned out. After years of being around her father, she might've caught a bit of psychological problems herself because no one would do what she does. She leaves in the middle of the night, changes her number, and disappears with a single note left on the fridge for her dad that reads "Bye-bye! Love, Cry Baby x."
