In the 1000s AD a group of Turkish Muslims entered and captured the holy city of Jerusalem. After the Turks attacked the city was no longer safe for Christians.
The emperor of Constantinople feared an attack on Constantinople so he asked the Pope the leader of the Roman Catholic church for help.
The people went on the crusades because The Pope wanted to regain the holy land that the Muslims stole.
The peasants were poorly trained therefore most of them were killed by the Turkish troops before they made it to the holy land.
Crusaders took Jerusalem and massacred the Muslim defenders. They also attacked Jews and Eastern Christians.
The Crusaders set up four small kingdoms in the holy land. The Crusaders also introduced the Feudal system and built castles.
