Muhammad had a great interest in religion and often spent time alone in prayer and meditation.
One night, he was meditating in a cave in Mecca when he claimed to have heard a voice of the angel Gabriel, a messenger of Allah.
He came to believe that the one who spoke to him in the cave was Allah. He began to teach that Allah was the only god and that all other gods must be abandoned.
Many Meccans believed that Muhammad's ideas would lead to neglect of traditional Arab gods. After some of his followers were attacked, he decided to leave Mecca. He moved to the town of Yathrib, renamed as Medina.
Muhammad was very successful in Media and became a military leader to soon face and defeat Mecca. Most Meccans pledged loyalty to him and converted to Islam. Two years later, Muhammad died. He was very successful in life and began to make Islam the place it is today.
