During 1937, Japan showed great violence against China. Especially that they attacked without declaring war e.g: Rape of Nanjing. President Roosevelt critisized this behaviour in a speech in Oct. 5. However, this was ineffective because Americans were isolationists.

By early May, The Nazis controlled many countries such as: Denmark, Norway, etc. Hitler then set his sights on France. France was successfully invaded. But the army was evacuated due to a few tactical errors
The evacuation was known as the Miracle of Dunkirk. It was a proud moment for Britain. However, Winston Churchill (Prime Minister) warned people.
Wars are not won by evacuations.
