Prospero is the protagonist, the main character in the story, in William Shakespeare's play The Tempest. At times, Prospero is a sympathetic character who is mistreated by his brother; at other times, he is an unsympathetic character because he uses magic to control other people.
Ariel is a spirit of the air who, because he refused to serve the witch, Sycorax, was imprisoned in a tree until rescued by Prospero. Ariel willingly carries out Prospero's wishes because he is eager to be free.
Miranda is the young daughter of Prospero in William Shakespeare's The Tempest. Although she is naive and innocent, she is also a charming and gentle girl who stands up for herself when needed. Despite her naive nature, she falls in love with and marries Prince Ferdinand.
