  • Photosynthesis is a process used by plants in which energy from sunlight is used to convert carbon dioxide and water into molecules. These molecules include the sugar the plant requires to lives and grow.
  • Combustion
  • Sun's Energy
  • Atmosphere
  • After the process of Photosynthesis finishes, and the sugars with carbon in them are stored inside the plant, the remaining Carbon is released as Carbon Dioxide, which is also followed by oxygen being released through respiration.
  • Dissolving
  • Ocean
  • Oxygen
  • Dissolved CO2
  • When animals begin eating from the plant. the carbon in the glucose is ingested and stored in the animal. After the animal dies and decomposes the stored carbon is released back into the atmosphere as Carbon Dioxide
  • Returning To The Atmosphere
  • Atmosphere
  • Another path for Carbon is when living things are buried under a lot of pressure. under this amount of pressure, they can slowly change into fossil fuels after millions of years. We, humans, take this fossil fuel and burn it up to produce energy, which releases the carbon back into the atmosphere
  • Fossil Fuel Burning
  • Buried Fossil Fuel
  • In the form of carbonate or bicarbonate ions, carbon dissolves in water and shellfish use this carbon to make their shells. After they die, their shells are buried and changed into sedimentary rock, in a common form called limestone, later the limestone might uplift to surface.
  • Shell Is Buried
  • Forms Limestone
  • After the limestone rises, and acid rain strikes it, the carbon stored in it is finally released as CO2 back into the atmosphere
  • Limestone
