St.Catherine was born in Siena, Italy. She was the 25th child, the second youngest of a very large family. She had a vision of Jesus when she was just six years old. She consecrated herself to God at a very young age.
When St. Catherine was 16 years old, she became a member of the Dominican Third Order. She spent a lot of time praying and talking to Jesus.She received many visions of Jesus, Mother Mary, Angels and the Saints.
During the plague that struck Siena, St.Catherine cared for the sick and poor. God healed the victims of plague whenever she nursed them or prayed for them.
St.Catherine prayed to Jesus for the conversion of criminals in prison. Miraculously there were sudden conversion by prisoners and they sought for God.
Remember the promise you made
The Pope at that time was not living in Rome. St. Catherine convinced him to move back to Rome. She tirelessly worked to bring peace to Italy and the Church. Different men claimed to be the Pope. She defended the real Pope and bought peace in Church.
St.Catherine went through great physical suffering. Many times she lived only on Holy Communion and no other food. She received the Stigmata ( the wounds of Christ) and asked God to let her carry the sins of the world. She died at the age of 33.
She never went to school or got formally educated. But her witness of life and her extraordinary letters are an inspriation to many. St.Catherine of Siena, Doctor of the church, Pray for us!
