Storyboard Text

  • Mom (Gorgias)
  • Dad (Socrates)
  • Maria (Polus)
  • Jake (Me)
  • All who have and do persuade people of things do so by molding a false argument. For if all men on all subjects had [both] memory of things past and [awareness] of things present and foreknowledge of the future, speech would not be similarly similar, since as things are now it is not easy for them to recall the past nor to consider the present nor to predict the future.
  • HA!!! I don't know why you said it so weirdly but I guess it mostly makes sense. You have to be pretty clever to convince people of anything.
  • Exactly sweetie. I don't really like people who try to take advantage of people like that, but I will say it is impressive when people pull it off.
  • I lied. I heard you guys having that conversation in the family room and I think we should all talk about this as a family.
  • Yeah I don't get why you want to debate this. Unless you disagree for some weird reason?
  • WHY?! Dad this isn't a big deal.
  • What's going on?
  • Actually I do disagree.
  • Guys relax. Okay honey what's your opinion then?
  • Is he serious Mom?
  •  Well I mean I just don't think it's that amazing of a thing to be able to convince someone of something.
  • I don't know, back when I was a teenager, my parents would always catch me in a lie when I'd try to convince them of something.
