The MeToo movement started out as a grassroots organisation to help young women in low income areas. MeToo was created by Tarana Burke who wanted to offer support those who have been affected by an act of sexual violence. Offering a place of healing and support to those who have survived.
In 2017 the MeToo movement became a viral. This was through the use of #MeToo on social media platforms. This gained attention from the media, and sparked a conversation about those who are survivors of sexual violence.
As a result of becoming a global movement. The need to become more inclusive. Now offering support to those who are 'trans, queer, disabled , and disabled folks, Black women and girls, and all communities of colour' (MeToo, 2020).
