Storyboard Text

  • Anton Von Leewonhoek Anton made his own microscope, which he used to look at bacteria. He called bacteria "animalcules". This is important because to look at cells, you need a microscope. Cells cannot be seen by the naked eye.
  • Robert Hooke Robert made the term "cell". While looking at a wine cork under a microscope, the cells reminded him of prison cells, hence the name "cells".
  • Theodor Schwann figured out that all animals are made out of cells. Theodor also has a nerve cell named after him (Schwann cell) and invented oxygen breathers for firefighters. Matthias Schleiden figured out that all plants are made up of cells. He was a Botanist, which means that he studied plants.
  • Rudolf Virchow Rudolf inisists that he found evidence that proved that cells come from other cells, but he actually stole the idea from Robert Remak.
  • Matthias strongly believed that cells just appear on their own. Theodor did not. Thankfully, Rudolf cleared it up be saying that cells are formed by other cells.
  • The End
