  • The narrator is introduced. He is telling the reader he's sane despite killing the old man.

  • The narrator becomes very friendly with the old man before killing him. The narrator explains he wants to rid of the old man's eye because he finds it disturbing and becomes obsessive over it.

  • The narrator stalks the old man every night before killing him.

  • I killed the old man!
  • After the narrator kills the old man, he hides the body in the floorboards after disassembling it. The police the show up after getting a report of shrieking.
  • The narrator starts to panic when he thinks he hears the old man's heartbeat through the floorboards.
  • The narrator confesses he kill the old man after he couldn't stand the heartbeat any longer.
