  • The exposition is about the narrator that tells us he is not mad, but, just nervous and diseased, but, can tell us the story very calmly. The narrator wanted to kill the old man because of his" vulture eye". The narrator shows us he is the antagonist in the story.
  • Climax
  • ah! help! help! what are u doing?
  • The narrator is trying to prove his sanity. The narrator was always kind to the old man, the old man never did the narrator wrong. At the dead hour of midnight (foreshadowing) would peck in on the old man while he is sleeping every night. He would open the lantern to see if his eye was open every night. The narrator will ask the old man how he slept every morning.
  • Falling Action
  • haha! The eye is gone.
  • On the 8th night the narrator was stalking the old man (personification) and wakes up the old man but stills to walk into the room. The old man and the narrator have a stand off and stare at each other for an hour straight. Once the narrator open the lantern he sees that that the old mans "vulture eye" is open. The narrator hear low, dull, quick sound and he thinks its the old man heart beat (symbolism). The narrator thinks the heart beat is getting louder. The narrator has anxiety (suspense) that the neighbors are going to hear the old man heart beat.
  • Resolution
  • What is he doing? 
  • Is this guy crazy?
  •  In the climax the narrator kills the old man on the 8th night when he sees his eye open. The narrator kills the old man by suffocating him with a mattress.
  • The narrator dismembers the old man's dead body in the bath tube. After he dismembers the body he hides the rest of the body under the floor boards in the bedroom. The police arrived because the neighbor heard the narrator shriek, the police then searches the house. The narrator invits the police to sit down in the old man's bedroom, the narrator places his chair on top of where he placed the the dismembered body. The narrator starts hearing a beating noise and thinks its the old mans dead heart but in reality it is his own heart beat, which is cause by his guilt. The narrator flips out and confeses to the police that he commite a murder.
  • The resolution is the narrator confesses to the murder because he can't stand the sound of the heart beat. The sound is be caused by his guilt of murdering the old man.
