The antagonist is the Narrator in the story. The Narrator wants to murder the old man because of his eye. The setting is at the old mans house.
Die old man die!!!!!
The narrator tries to prove his sanity by saying he is not crazy he just has a disease. The narrator was never kind to the old man before his murder. Every night the narrator watched the old man sleep . He would turn on the lantern to see if the old mans eye was open. In the morning the narrator would ask how the old man slept.
Your neighbors heard screaming.
The suspense is building on the eighth night when the old man wakes up. The old man and the narrator have a 1 hour standoff. The narrator opens lantern and sees the old mans eye. The narrator hears a low dull quick sound and thinks it is the old mans heart. Narrators new anxiety is that the sound of the heart will be heard. He also uses foreshadowing when he says death is aproaching.
I murdered the old man!
The narrator jumps into the room screams and drags the old man out of bed. He suffocates the old man with a matress.
The narrator dismembers the body and hides it under the floor boards. The police arrive because neighbor heard screaming. The police search the house and the narrator invites them to sit in the old mans room. Narrator sits on the floor board were he hid the body. The narrator thinks he hears the old mans heartbeat. The narrator starts freaking out as the noise gets louder.
I screamed becuase i had a bad dream
The resolution is when the narrator confessed to the murder. He confessed because he thought the police could hear the heartbeat and were mocking him.
