The narrator Montressor claims that his enemy Fortunado has hurt him. So, Montressor vows revenge on Fortundao. Montressor acts polite to Fortundao so ho does not suspect anything.
Montressor meets Fortunado at carnival wearing a long cape and mask to help hide his identity. While Fortunado is wearing a gsture costume. He claims to have he expensive wine called Amontillado. Then, states that he could get Luchresi to taste the wine since he is having fun.
After going down the catacombs Montressor states that they should go back because of Fortunado's cough. He also keeps giving Fortnado more wine to keep him drunk. Fortunado wants to keep going saying that he will not die of a cough. Montressor brings up Luchresi again to make Fortunado want to keep going.
Montressor has caught Fortunado off hand and chained him to the wall. Fortunado is confused to what is happening because he is still drunk. So he is wondering where the Amontillado is.
Montressor is building a wall to kill Fortunado. Fortunado starts to sober up. Then Fortunado starts to scream so Montressor scyeams back. Fortunado's air is running out and is about to die.
Once Fortunado died you could only hear the last jingling of bells. Over half a century later no person has found his body. The internal conflict of the story is Montressor's need for revenge. This just shows that revenge is a strong motivator.
