Montresor has been injured and insulted by Fortunato and Montresor vows revenge. The story takes place during the 17th century in Italy during carnival season. The external conflict of the story is Montresor versus Fortunato.
Where's the Amontillado
Montresor encounters Fortunato at the carnival. Since Fortunato is a wine expert, Montresor tells him about the cask of amontillado that he has bought. Montresor manipulates Fortunato and tells him he could just ask “Luchressi” just to convince Fortunato to come. Montresor outfit symbolizes death in the catacombs. The Irony is that Fortunato’s name means to have luck, but he will have an unfortunate end to his life.
The niche in the catacombs is making Fortunato's cough worst. Montresor gave Fortunato wine to make him more drunk. Montresor keeps encouraging Fortunato to go back. They finally get to the end and Montresor tells Fortunato there is Amontillado ahead. The irony is that fortunado says a cough cant kill me but he actually is going to die. Montresor costume symbolize the grim reaper and he's leading Fortunado to his death.
Its been 50 years and no one has found him
Fortunate gets to the end and there's no Amontillado. Montresor created ahead of time a hole big enough for Fortunado.Fortunate stood there stupidly while getting chained to the wall by Montresor.Fortunado is to drunk to realize what's happening.
Once Fortunate is chained to the wall Montresor constucts a wall over the entrance so Fortunate is stuck inside. Fortunado stobers up once he realizes what is happening.Fortunado starts jangling the chains and screaming. Montresor responds by screaming back. Befor the last block is placed Montresor gets one more look at Fortunate.Fortunado tries to play toff as joke.The irony is that Fortuando Madeatoast to life but he lead himself to death.
Its been 50 years since the death of Fortunado.Montressor confess and states that no one has disturbed the bones in a pile around the walls where Fortunado is.The theme Is "Revenge is a strong motivator". The internal conflict of the story is Montresor's desire for revenge.
