just a little farther
how far til we get the Amontillado
in 17th century Italy, a man named Fortunato has injured and insulted Montressor. Montressor wants to get revenge for what Fortunato has done to him. His revenge includes him not getting caught.
when are we going to get the Amontillado
Montressor finds Fortunato drunk at the carnival in a jester costume. Montressor "compliments" Fortunato by how good he's looking. Montressor tells him that he has acquired a cask of amontillado and asked for his assistance. Montressor manipulates fortunato by telling him he will ask lucresi to taste it. Fortunato is supposed to be well respected but is dressed as a fool.
Montressor takes Fortunato through the catacombs to the amontillado. the nitre makes Fortunatos' cold worse. Fortunato claims he will not die of a cough (which he will). Montressor gives Fortunato some wine to make him drunk. they both end up in the deepest part of the catacombs. Fortunatato means fortunate one.
(sad bone noises)
Montressor keeps giving Fortunato wine to make sure he's drunk. Motressor tells Fortunato that the amontillado is in the niche. As soon as he's in the niche, Montressor chains him to the wall
Montressor starts to construct the wall. after a while, Fortunato screams as he realizes whats happening. every once in a while, Fortunato jangles the chains and screams. before the last block is in place, Montressor gets one good look at him. Fortunato suffocates and dies. Fortunato does die of a cough.
For half a century, no one has disturbed the body. Revenge can be a very good motivator. The internal conflict is Montressor's revenge. dont let your ambitions blind you.
