Narrator tells us he is not mad, just nervous and has a disease that has sharpened his senses. he says he can hear everything in Heaven, Earth, and Hell. He then contradicts himself and says he wants to kill the old man. He starts getting anxious and then starts talking about the old man's "vulture eye." then he starts screaming but then cools down and says how calmly he can tell us the story.
The narrator stars telling us the story by saying how he was planning to kill the old man. Every night for 8 nights at midnight. just in case the old man heard a sound he over planned and asked the old man how he slept and made it seem like if he was just checking on him. he keeps trying to prove his sanity but just keeps proving how insane he is. that same week he was much kinder to the old man. he kept using lantern to shine on the eye sence that's the only thing that bothered him and he couldn't do it because he actually adored the old man,
still thnk im mad?!?!
The eight night the narrator din't get so lucky. His finger slipped through the lantern and woke the old man up. the old man was scared and knew that there was someone with him in the room. they stud there in the pitch black for one hour without moving. the narrator giggles at the old man's ignorance and thinks he is very smart. then he starts hearing his own heart beat and thinks it's the lold man's heart and wants to stop it because he thinks it will alarm someone, so he turns on the lantern and sees the eye wide open.
HERE. TEAR UP THE BOARDS I CONFESS I KILLED THE OLD MA!!!!
the narrator finally decides to shine the light at the old man's eye. he saw the eye and made him furious and finally took the life of the old man.
The narrator cuts the body into pieces in a bath tub. then he decides to put the body under a few wood planks on the floor. The neighbors hear a shriek and a scream so the police comes to investigate. The narrator lets the police come in with confidence. After a moment the narrator decides to give them some tea. He gives them a seat and he puts his own seat right over were he put the old man's body. Then he starts to feel a little weird.
The narrator starts hearing his own heart beat and thinks it's the old man's heart beat. He thinks that the officers can hear the heart beat too and are laughing because of the "stupidity" of the narrator. So he starts freaking out, then confesses to the crime.
