The antagonist would be the narrator. The Narrator plots to kill the Old Man because of his vulture like eye. The narrator tells us how he is not insane, just how nervous he is, but can tell us the story calmly. The narrator has a disease that lets him hear people from heaven and hell.
The narrator says hes not crazy, but no one said anything, He's being kind to the old man the whole week before he kills the old man. Every night at 12 o'clock he would go into the old mans room and have a lantern he shines the light on the eye to see if it is open. The eye was never open when the Narrator looked .Every day the Narrator ask the old man how he slept to see if the old man saw him in his chamber.
on the eighth night the Narrator goes into the old mans room opens the door and tries for 1 hour to put his head in the narrator hits his thumb on the latch of the lantern, old man wakes up says"who's there" the narrator stand there for one hour than he laughs at the old mans ignorance because he doesn't know that the narrator is in there. The narrator opens the lantern and shines it on the eye, its open, its the chance that the Narrator has been waiting for to kill the old man. he hears a low dull quick sound thinks it's the old mans hear but after the Narrator kills the old man it goes away. The Narrator's new fear is that the neighbors would hear it.

Its the eighth night and the Narrator goes into the Old mans room. The narrator goes into the old mans room and for one hour he again tried t put his head in the door. The narrator shines the lantern light on the old man, it's his time to kill the old man, the Narrator kills the old man by suffocating him with a mattress.

The suspense is at its highest when, The narrator dismembers the body in a bathtub so the blood doesn't stain the floors, he hides the body under floor broads in the old mans room. The police knock at the door and ask to search because the neighbors heard a scream. The Narrator is overly confident and lets the police come in and search, The narrator brings in chairs in the old mans room he places the three chairs fro the police and then places is own chair right on the old mans body. The narrator starts to hear a noise and thinks he hears the old mans heart beat which that symbolizes and its personification, the narrators anxiety. He starts getting pale and crazy the police men are just talking and laughing his anxiety is getting higher and higher.
