Storyboard Text

  • exposition 
  • people are talking and kids are gathering stones

  • Alright folks lets try to get this done quickly 
  • rising action 2
  • people are pulling out slips of paper and are not getting the winning slip
  • The setting of the story is in a small village. The story takes place June and the author describes the warm summer day and green grass. All of the characters seem to know each other and speak politely to each other as they enter the town square in anticipation of the lottery. All of  this creates a pleasant mood. However, the author adds foreshadows by having the young boys gathering the stones  
  • climax 
  • Mr.summers and Mr.graves enter the town square with a black wooden box. The towns people all start to get quiet as the two men get up on the stage.  They say alright folks lets try and get this done as soon as possible. As they open up the black wooden box the crowd begins to get anxious. The men of the family come up to get the slip of paper.  
  • falling action 
  • Some the people start holding up there paper and they are saying that they do not have it. They are looking all around to see who has the paper. No one who has gone up there has gotten the winning slip and they sigh in relief. Some other people go up to the box and they look at the slip of paper. They have not pulled the winning slip and some of the ones who have not gone start geting really tense.
  • resolution 
  • Mr.Summers infers that Tessie has the winning slip. Bill Sr forces the slip of paper out of Tessie hand. The slip had the black spot on it. Bill sr held the winning slip to the crowd so they could see. Mr.summers declares that tessie is the winner of the lottery bye telling everyone to finish quickly  
  • Tessie claims that the that the drawing was unfair. Everyone gathers around her and someone hits her with a rock in her head. Delacroix tells everyone to hurry up as she picks up the biggest stone. Tessie begs for another drawing as she is getting hit with stones. So then she was stoned to death. 
  • The theme of the story is old tradition can be dangerous.
