Storyboard Text

  • exposition
  • hi! how are you?
  • I have  more stones than any of you.
  • I am going to speak the heads of all the families.
  • rising action one
  • Hutchinson's
  • I am here.
  • rising action two
  • No! this is not fair. Let's start this all over again.
  • the setting is in a small village. the story takes place in June and the author describes the warm summer day and green grass. All of the characters seem to know one another and speak politely to each other as they enter the town square in anticipation of the lottery. All of this creates a calm or pleasant mood. However, the author adds foreshadowing by having the young boys gather stones.
  • climax
  • No! Please, let's start again. This is not fair.
  • The people of the town are nervous and very quit as Mr.Summer's and Mr.Graves enters the scene with a big black box foreshadowing something bad is going to happen later. Mr.Summer's shuffles the papers in the box. Tessie arrives late showing that she is not to nervous about the lottery. the lottery starts as Mr.Summer's calls out the name of all the men with a household.
  • falling action
  • The Hutchinson family wins the lottery. Mrs. Hutchinson started screaming that it was not fair and they should have another draw. All of them pick another slip of paper from the box. Little Davy did not have have the winning slip nor did Bill Jr. and Nancy have it. They whooped with joy. Now only Mr. and Mrs. Hutchinson were left. Mr.Hutchinson did not have the winning slip as he came to know.
  • resolution
  • NO!
  • Tessie had the winning slip Mr. Summer's announced. Bill grabs the slip from Tessie's hand and justifies what Mr. Summer's had said. Tessie  had won the much dreaded  lottery. She started screaming again saying that it was not fair and they should start again.
  • By now everybody had started to collect stones. Mrs. Delacroix picked the largest stone which is kind of ironic as she had a friendly coversation with Tessie just a moment ago and also as her name means 'of the cross' and she goes against the rules of christanity , hence going against what her name stood for. Tessie is hit with a stone on the side of her head. Blood starts leaking from her head.
  • Tessie is stoned to death.
