Montressor plans to seek revenge on a guy named Fortunato because he thinks that Fortunato has insulted him. He also plans to seek revenge on Fortunato without being caught. The setting is in the 17th century in Italy.

Montressor manipulates Fortunato into following him into the vault by flattering him. Also pretending he doesn't want Fortunato to come. Montressor claims to have explicit and very expensive wine. Fortunato is a wine expert. It is the middle of the carnival and Fortunato is dressed as a jester and suffering from a cold..
Montressor.. what are you doing?
*Jingle of the bells and chains rattling*
Montressor and Fortunato are headed deeper into the vaults. Montressor keeps giving Fortunato wine to make him drunk. Fourtunato is suffereing grom a bad cold and there is mold/nitre on the walls in the vaults. The mold/nitre on the walls are making Fortunato's cold worse.
Rest in peace.
Montressor has hidden bricks and a mason tool before hand so he can be prepared when he goes to kill fortunato. He also built a niche in the depths of the walls just big enough for Fortunato. He also hid chains and a padalock. Since Montresor gave Fortunato wine on the way down, Fortunato is too drunk to realize what is going on. Montressor leads Fortunato into his niche while he distracts Fortunato.
Once Montressor has chaines Fortunato to the wall, Montressor constructs a wall around Fortunato. Once Fortunato is stuck to the wall, he starts to realize what is going on and quickly sobers up. Fortunato begins to rattle the chins to attempt to get out and begins to panic. Once he realizes that he cant escape, he starts to scream. Montressor responds by screaming back.
In the end, Montressor leaves Fortunato in the catacombs. Fortunato has no suffocated and died. It has been 50 years since anyone has found Fortunato's body. Montressor confesses that no one has ever disturbed the bones that are pilled up on the walls around the wall Montressor built.
