A man went down to the river with no home and no shelter, just an axe. Surrounding the river was a ring of trees. The man went to the trees and cut down one of the smallest to build a shelter for himself. After a couple of hours of cutting down trees the man built himself a home on a riverbank in peace.
A handful of days had passed since the man had built himself a home, when another man passed through the clearing and sought shelter from the man who had built himself a home on the riverbank. The man agreed and let the traveller into his home free of charge. The next day the traveller left the man’s home, leaving a gift behind him.
Over the following years the man let travellers into his house and gave them shelter through rain and sun, darkness and light, but each time a traveller stayed at his house, the man expected the travellers to leave gifts, expecting more and more each time. Having enough of travellers not leaving gifts the man began to slowly charge the travellers to stay in his house.
After time the man’s greed began to take hold of him and he raised the prices to stay at his home until the prices got too high and nobody would come to his home. After a while the man shut himself off from the village that had grown around him and refused anyone who came. One day however a storm grew and a tree crashed through the the house destroying it.
The man was homeless and moved through the village asking for shelter but no one accepted him
Until the man stopped on the outside of a village and a man came out and spoke to the man and asked him to come home with him back to his home. The man asked him why he was doing this and the man lifted his hood and showed him his face. The unknown man turned out to be the first traveller whom the man had let in to his home and he wanted to repay him for what he did and show him what he had been doing wrong by charging people to stay at his house and that he should of been doing what he did to him and let people stay with him for free.
