After barely escaping from the cyclops, the come to the keeper of the winds for aid on their journey back to Ithaca. He gives them the west wind so they can get home. On the way back home some of the crew is tricked into releasing the North, East and South winds sending them back where they came from.
Chapter 9: The Land of the Dead
They land at yet another island to find food. On the beach there are great big trees that Ulysses send a group to climb. When the first few people don't come back he sends more. Soon after the second group doesn't come back Ulysses goes and when he gets to the top he realizes that they aren't trees but giants.
Chapter 10: The wandering rocks
A while later they land at an island looking for food. Ulysses goes inland and finds a great buck that he takes back to the beach, but when he was looking for food he heard screeching. He goes to investigate he finds a castle and he also finds lions and wolves running as a pack. He sends a group to go into the castle, but they don't come back so he goes. Hermes meets him outside and gives him a flower that will protect him from the enchantments he goes in, and when he isn't affected Circe becomes his wife.
Chapter 11: The sirens
When Ulysses left Circe's island he promised to go to the underworld. When he gets there he talks to ghosts about his future. They tell him about different dangers he will face.
Once they finally make it out of the underworld there are rocks chasing them towards the worst possible place.
After being chased by the rocks Ulysses realized where they were going so he puts wax in the ears of his crew and ties himself to the mast. When he hears the sirens he wants to swim to shore but when he sees them it's the opposite feeling. Once they are out of range of the sound he signals to take the wax out.
