Prim was the first person to be mentioned in the book. Her name came from the flower 'Primrose' meaning ' I can't live without you' which shows her importance to the narrator
There are many different meanings to Dandelions like 'surviving through all difficulties and challenges, getting your wish fulfilled and healing from physical and emotional pain.'
At the very start of the book Katniss wakes up and realises that Prim is not in the bed as she says "my fingers stretch out seeking Prim's warmth but finding only the rough canvas cover of the mattress" this shows that Katniss really cares about Prim.
Another flower mentioned in the book was Prim and Katniss's cat 'Buttercup'. The flower represents happiness and childishness.
This flower was mentioned when Katniss receives bread from Peeta. As the flower means hope and getting your wish fulfilled which for Katniss was food as she and her family were dying of hunger, she got a hope of survival.
Katniss is another flower mentioned in fact it is the name of the main character and the narrator means hope and is also known as 'arrowhead'
In the book it says "sitting at Prim's knees, is the world's ugliest cat. Prim named him Buttercup. Even though it was years ago, I think he still remembers how I tried to drown him in a bucket" shows Prim's innocence and positivity and Katniss's negativity.
Her dad says to her "as long as you can find yourself, you'll never starve" which means that she is a hope for her family's survival and the quote "don't look like much but boiled and baked are as good as any potato" means that she can survive in a lot of pressure and the word 'arrowhead' might be a reference to her archery skills.
