  • Conch
  • Piggy's Glasses
  • The Beast
  • The Conch Shell is a symbol of power within the group of kids. Whoever is holding the Conch has to be listened to. This is shown when Piggy says, "I got the conch," said Piggy indignantly. "You let me speak!"
  • Simon
  • Piggy's glasses symbolize advances in technology and the power of science. Piggy's glasses are used to start the fire. This is shown when Jack says, "His specs, use them as burning glasses!"
  • The beast represents the ever growing evil between all of the boys. The beast instills fear within the boys and in turn makes them dark and evil. This is shown when the beast said,"Fancy thinking the Beast was something you could hunt and kill! You knew, didn’t you? I’m part of you? Close, close, close!"
  • Simon was a symbol of natural human kindness. Simon never chose sides and always tried to help everyone out. In the end, all it brought him was death. This is shown when the book states,"The beast struggled forward... At once the crowd surged after it, poured down the rock, leapt on to the beast, screamed, struck, bit, tore
