  • MAY 1789- Louis XVI calledthe first meeting of the Estates-General in 175 years.
  • JUNE 20, 1789- Louis XVI locked the door so the 3rd estate moved to the tennis court. They took the Tennis Court Oath and formed the National Assembly.
  • JULY 14,1789- Parisians storm the Bastille and conquer it.
  • OCTOBER 5,1789- Women's March on Versailles. The royal family moves back to Paris.
  • AUGUST 25, 1789- National Assembly completes the Declaration of the Rights of Man.
  • SEPTEMBER 30,1791- France becomes a constitutional monarchy.
  • APRIL 20, 1792- France declares war on Austria.
  • JANUARY 20, 1793- Louis XVI is put on trial and sentenced to death. He is executed on JANUARY 21, 1793
  • Less than a year later, on OCTOBER 16, 1793, Marie Antoinette is executed as well.
  • JULY 13, 1793- Jean-Paul Marat, the People's Man, is killed by Charlotte Corday. She is executed on JULY 17, 1793.
  • JULY 27, 1793- Maximilien Robespierre is elected to the Committee of Public Safety.
  • SEPTEMBER 1793 to JULY 1794 - The Reign of Terror/ the Great Terror. Over 800 people are executed a day.
  • JULY 27, 1794- Robespierre and his allies are placed under arrest by the National Assembly. After a failed suicide attempt, he is executed on JULY 28, 1794.
  • JUNE 4, 1794- Robespierre is elected president of the National Convention
