  • Chapter 1
  • I want you to stay, Lennie. Jesus Christ, somebody'd  shoot you for a coyote if you was by yourself.

  • Chapter 2
  • Well, you keep away from her, 'cause she's a rat-trap if I ever seen one. You let Curley take the rap.
  • Curley hits and Lennie, and he defends himself. But this results in him crushing Curley's hand. Because George and Lennie does not want to be canned, Slim convinces Curley to fake how he hurt his hand.
  • Chapter 3
  • I think you got your han' caught in a machine. If you don't tell nobody what happened, we ain't going to. But you jus' tell an' try to get this guy canned and we'll tell ever'body, an' then will you get the laugh.

  • He - would of went south. We come from north so we would of went south.
  • Chapter 6
  • Crook lives alone in his barn because he is a colored man. Lennie visits him and Crook tries to let him understand what loneliness does to him. Lennie takes it as a threat and defends what Crook tells him, saying that George will never leave him.
  • Lennie runs away after he had accidentally killed Curley's wife. Enraged, Curley is convinced to find and kill him. Slim asks George where he thinks Lennie would have hid. George lies so Curley doesn't find him first and kill him.
  • George finds Lennie where they agreed to meet if Lennie were to ever get in trouble. George shoots Lennie in the head, rather than letting Curley and the others find him first and kill him even more painfully.
