  • James Buchanan

  • Who?
  • John C. Fremont
  • Millard Fillmore 
  • Buchanan won the election. During his presidency the Dred-Scott occurred, 7 debates for the race for the Illinois senate seat also occurred, and John Brown was arrested, tried, and executed.
  • What?
  • The Dred Scott case occurred in the supreme court, the 7 debates got national attention, and John Brown got executed in Charles Town, West Virginia.
  • Where?
  • Although Douglas won the senate, Lincoln got a lot of exposure and people really like him.
  • When Buchanan was elected people were happy because he said he would stop the "allegation of the slavery issue."
  • Impact?
  • Lincoln and other republicans condemned Brown, and many abolitionists refused to join him, the was very alert and ready for war. Brown intensified national division between the North and South.
  • The South was pleased with the case of Dred Scott, the North wasn't.
  • The End!
